Last Day of Term

Friday, Week 10, Term 3

We have made it! Another wonderful term complete.

Today for our "Fun Friday" we made chocolate crackles. They were so easy to make, this is definitely something you could do for during the holidays.

Here is the link:

Have a lovely and enjoyable holiday, I look forward to seeing you all again next term.

Doubling and halving

Doubling and Halving

We are getting very good at knowing our doubles to 20, now we are working on learning our doubles to 40!

Today we looked at halving numbers. It's tricky stuff!

For example we have the number 16. We know that 8 + 8 = 16, therefore half of 16 = 8.
We used butterfly wings and counters to help us halve the different numbers. We used the strategy of equal sharing - we counted the correct number of coloured counters then equally shared the counters onto each butterfly wing.

You could have a go at doing this with your child at home! You could draw your own picture and use all sorts of materials to help your child halve numbers to 40.

Maori Fried Bread, Yum!

What a busy Friday Room 16 had!

Every Friday, the Pukeko Team does a Maori Rotation where each class gets to experience something different about the Maori culture.

Room 16 was very lucky to have their turn with Miss Chalmers in Room 15 and make Maori fried bread!

Here is a video below... Thanks Miss Chalmers, it tasted YUM!

Brain Food - Fruit Kebabs!

Today we made Fruit Kebabs and they were yummy!

Today we talked about "Healthy Eating" and what this means.
We knew that healthy eating was about eating food that is good for you. Some clever cookies knew that healthy food gives you energy and makes you nice and strong.

We thought we would make our own brain food today using lots of healthy fruit, we had: kiwifruit, banana, oranges, grapes and pineapple... we even added a cheeky marshmallow to our kebabs. Yum!

Poetry Recital!

Well done to all the children in Room 16 who had a go at reciting their poems today!

It was so lovely seeing you all have such confidence to stand in front of a lot of people and share your poem... We all understand how tricky it can be!

A big thank you to all the parents, siblings and grandparents who came to support us. Thank you also to Mrs Cantley, Mrs Campbell and Room 15 for attending this afternoon - we were pleased to be able to share our poems with you.

Finalists will be announced tomorrow and a notice will be sent home. The final Poetry Recital will be held next week - Tuesday 8th in the hall.

Doing Good Because Good is Good to Do!

On Monday it was Random Act of Kindness Day, this tied in well with our behaviour model. This week we are up to D of our ABCD's - Doing Good Because Good is Good to Do!

Do the right thing, even when no one is looking.
